June IND marks ten years since Chemcoma’s farewell show, releases “Come to Hand” featuring Justice Fuller

Ten years ago, our pre-June IND band Chemcoma rang out its last note at the Mosey Down Main Street in Downtown Lafayette, Indiana. No one has heard us play any of those songs since… until today.

With the blessing of our old pal Cody, we re-recorded an unplugged version of the Chemcoma fave, “Come to Hand” featuring our friend Justice Fuller on violin and vocals.

Check it out:

If you’re still with us down here… we’re also using the “Come to Hand” recording experience as a dry run for pumping out more new music during this pandemic mess. There are still seven unreleased First Annual Meeting of Optimists tracks that we need to put inside your ears. Stay tuned.

P.S. We offered to plug Cody’s cool, new band, but he didn’t think it was necessary. Anyway, if you want to look them up, it rhymes with Fight Likes In. 😘😘

Today’s Memory Stash: Dan Precision mixes June IND’s “My Rx”

June-IND-MyRx-mix-session-Dan-Precision

Mix session from June IND’s song “My Rx” by Dan Precision at The Bombshelter Recording Studio in Chicago

On this day, June 30, 2015, Dan Precision was mixing “My Rx,” a brooding, grinding rock song (à la Alice in Chains and Chevelle) that serves as the lead-off track to June IND’s #HillsterHipbilly EP.

Appropriately referred to as a “three-year-minefield,” the Hipbilly effort invokes memories of personal and professional strife among the group along with strong feelings of accomplishment regarding the EP’s eventual completion and release.

Pandemic thwarts recording plans, June IND releases new music instead

Well, that escalated quickly. Remember this (June IND to return to The Bombshelter in March to record new music)? We’re supposed to be at the Bombshelter Recording Studio recording with Dan Precision right now…

Timeline update:

  • Three weeks ago, we were still working on pre-production for the Vol. 3 tunes, planning how much food and bourbon to take to Chicago, etc.
  • Two weeks ago, we decided to pump the brakes and hunker down.
  • Last week we decided to release all of our Vol. 2 goodies.
  • This week (like, now), that happens.

Stay safe, everyone. Sending the best of vibes to you, the folks out of work and the folks still out working. If it helps, here’s some boogie:

June IND surprised when delivery man doesn’t burst into flames
New CD #HillsterHipbilly arrives, Carnahan Hall release show October 2nd

LAFAYETTE, INDIANA — Recorded in places hit by a tornado, that have caught fire, and that were relocated due to divorce, singer/guitarist Chris June had his camera app loaded as the delivery guy approached his Lafayette home with a box of CDs.

“Thankfully, he made it out alive, but he may have caught fire on the original delivery date, instead,” says June.

#HillsterHipbilly, the new CD from local rock band June IND was supposed to be delivered on Friday. It was also supposed to be released any time between now and the three-year-minefield that has elapsed since the group anticipated it going public.

“We (June and drummer Emily Larimer and bassist Drew Luigs) are far from superstitious, but in order to keep a clear conscience, we started warning people that had interest in working on the project,” says June.

Now that people can hold a copy in their hands and blast it on their stereos, the members of June IND are offering a different warning. “The release show at Carnahan Hall is going to be a riot,” says Luigs. “A good-time-kind-of-riot,” Larimer adds.

The official release show will be Friday, October 2nd at Carnahan Hall (800 Main Street) in Downtown Lafayette. June IND will be joined by bands/friends The Clutter (Lafayette) and iamlion (Indianapolis). Work from CD Art Designer Rikx (Rikx.com) and CD Photographer Dave Mason (ISPhotographic) will be on display. Citizens for Civil Rights will be on hand to register voters. $5.00 Hipbilly Drink specials (PBR + a shot of Rye Whiskey) will be available during the show.

The first 50 people through the door will receive a complimentary copy of June IND’s #HillsterHipbilly. After that, folks will have to wait for future shows to have a chance of getting it. #HillsterHipbilly CDs will not be available for sale nor will the music be streaming online. RSVP

Request “A Little Bitterness” on Erik’s Eatery on BOBFM at noon by calling 765.471.9653 or commenting at bit.ly/EriksEatery.
