SAMI Showcase Sunday is an all-ages event. There is no admission fee, but tips & donations are welcome. Proceeds benefit the Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Songwriters.

About Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Songwriters

The Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Scholarship is sponsored by the Songwriters Association of Mid-North Indiana, or SAMI. Named in memory of one of SAMI’s first members, the scholarship is an opportunity for young songwriters to bring their creative voices to a panel of seasoned songwriters for critique, guidance, and encouragement. An award of $500 to be used toward the songwriter’s musical endeavors is awarded to the first place winner, while other recognitions within the contest are first runner-up, second runner-up, and the Mike Lane Horizon award. More than just a contest, though, the Shirley Martin Scholarship is an opportunity for young people to make connections and build their songwriting skill and knowledge, and to enter the songwriting community through the members and supporters of SAMI. /YEARS\
Years are determined to tell the truth. Pop music doesn’t have to suck and it doesn’t have to be neutered. Years’ melodies are both catchy and hard-hitting and their lyrics are honest.

Veteran local musicians and philanthropists Chris June and Emily Larimer playing angsty, smart, pop songs! Mostly original with some choice, unconventional cover tunes thrown in for good measure.

Artist Brandon Ahnert Joins the First Annual Meeting of Optimists

It was a nice, cold/rainy November morning hanging out with artist Brandon Ahnert to work on “Ok, Alright,” inching us forward with our First Annual Meeting of Optimists Project.

First Annual Meeting of Optimists is a multimedia art and music project featuring 13 new June IND tracks accompanied by song-inspired visuals from area artists.

As we did with artist Stacy Bogan, we reached out to Brandon by asking, “Can you paint the face of the person that this song is about.”

From there, we gave him a track, lyric sheet and a canvas, met up with him at his home studio, and hit record.

Connect with Brandon Ahnert on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

“Ok, Alright” is a tribute to Main Street, mom & pop, shopping small, buying local, and everyone busting their ass to make a living.

You’ll be able to hear “Ok, Alright” & more First Annual Meeting of Optimists tunes LIVE on December 21, 9 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Saloon for People’s Live presents: YEARS / JUNE IND / What About Jim.
