June IND’s favorite cover songs: “Addicted To Love” by Florence + The Machine

We are creators and consumers of music. While we’re partial to our tunes, we can’t ignore the good feels we’ve had or the musical influence that resulted from playing songs that we didn’t write.

So, we put together a list (and playlist!) of our favorite cover songs from past and present to share those good feels and influence.

Next up is Robert Palmer’s “Addicted To Love” by Florence + The Machine:

Em: I think this song was my idea and I always don’t want to play it, lol. It’s a cool song and we play the cool Florence arrangement of it. I just can never remember the words.

Chris: When Em suggested playing this, I immediately recalled watching the Robert Palmer video on MTV as a youngster! What a weird video… Playing this song live is one of my faves because all I have to do is hang back and strum. Em does a great job singing it and I get a break from yelling!

Aligning with Homeless Youth Awareness Month, June IND’s #philanthrocky beneficiary for November 2021 is LTHC Homeless Services. LTHC helps families, children, veterans and those with disabilities find stable housing and self-sufficiency in our community.

All June IND streaming loot for November will be donated to LTHC: put some boogie in your ears and fight homelessness.

The band consisting of decades-long friends and collaborators Chris June and Emily Larimer recently released “First Annual Meeting of Optimists Vols. 1 and 2,” two EPs recorded at a time when you could do that without trepidation, and single “Come to Hand” in times of concern. About #philanthrocky music for a cause

Rock duo June IND launched the #philanthrocky music for a cause initiative in August 2020 to support Greater Lafayette, Indiana area organizations and make their music work for the community. Each month through July 2022, all revenue from June IND’s music streams and sales will be given to a Greater Lafayette area organization addressing issues related to arts access, diversity, education, the environment, equality, homelessness, human rights, hunger, or social justice. Terrible twos: Nov. 12 is cake day for First Annual Meeting of Optimists, Vol. 1

Lafayette, IN rock band June IND’s First Annual Meeting of Optimists project is still halfway complete and on-hold due to the ongoing pandemic, but today there’s a reason to celebrate: 36 score and eleven days ago (Nov. 12, 2019 if you don’t want to do the math), June IND released the angry, wholesome sounds of First Annual Meeting of Optimists Vol. 1. AND IT STILL JAMS.

A departure from their norm and influenced by previous efforts to rearrange earlier material for unplugged shows, the First Annual Meeting of Optimists material was written in a singer-songwriter format: one voice and an acoustic guitar. From there, bandmates Chris and Emily self-produced the songs at their home studios in Lafayette, IN; adding walls of guitars and drums, bass that won’t sit still and layers of background vocals, vocal harmonies and various instrumental leads and counter lines.

The duo enlisted the help of Dan Precision (Rise Against, 88 Fingers Louie, The Mound Builders) at The Bombshelter to engineer and mix the effort in Chicago, IL. Artists Brandon Ahnert and Stacy Bogan were recruited to visualize the songs, creating original paintings to be used in album artwork and music videos.

Celebrate Vol. 1’s terrible twos: pop in some earbuds, put on some headphones or turn that volume knob clockwise.

On the first Friday of every month since March of 2020, Bandcamp has waived revenue share to support artists. We’ve been passing the value on to Greater Lafayette area organizations addressing issues related to arts access, diversity, education, the environment, equality, homelessness, human rights, hunger and social justice.
